Manchester Awarded Cloud Computing Resources

The EU FP7 Venus-C consortium has awarded the University of Manchester access to resources and training to evaluate the Microsoft Azure platform for two areas of research: Life Sciences and Engineering. These evaluation projects, classed as "Experiments" according to the terminology of the Venus-C consortium, will run from September 2011 until May 2013.

The first Experiment, "PGM-PSI - Predictive Gait Modelling for Patient-Specific Intervention" is being led by Dr Bill Sellers in the Faculty of Life Sciences. The second Experiment, "vProduct: Virtual Prototyping On-demand Using Cloud Technology" is being led by Dr Lee Margetts on behalf of researchers in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.

The award from Venus-C complements a 180-day trial arrangement made directly with Microsoft through their UK Education Evangelist Lee Stott.
